Tenth Annual Polish Picnic in Mahopac is a history! Cloudy, drizzly and possibility of thunderstorms – it never happened to us before in Sycamore Park, while we held our annual picnic. But this unpredictable weather didn’t scare our old and new guests. Polish food and beer lovers gathered in Sycamore Park shortly after 1:00 pm and stayed there until dusk. Famous pierogi (dumplings), golabki (stuffed cabbage), bigos (hunter stew) and fasolka (beans in tomato sauce) were served as well as kielbasa and shish kebab from grill. Homemade cakes prepared by the most experienced members of Polish-American Heritage Club and traditional donuts from the Polish bakery in Greenpoint (Brooklyn) satisfied all dessert lovers. DJ Daniel warmed the audience with his music and entertained children. Mr. Zdzislaw Rutkowski with verve and skill led the entire program, including a historical quiz, where participants had to demonstrate a pretty good knowledge of Polish history. Paul Wolak was the special guest of this year’s picnic – he is Polish boxer with the American passport, Master of the New York State American Federation of IBA in the junior middleweight and the international champion of Poland. Many Americans came to our picnic this year. They not only praised the Polish food and drinks, but also the good organization of the event.
Town of Carmel Supervisor Kenneth Schmitt and Senator Vincent Leibell visited our picnic as well as other officials. We decided that during this picnic we will raise funds to help victims of the devastating flooding that recently took place in Poland. Thanks to the generosity of participants we have $ 866, which will be forwarded to flood victims. We hope that despite the gloomy weather everybody had fun and we invite everyone to the autumn festival in September! click to see: PICTURES |
